This artwork depicts a Cathay Pacific A321neo flying above Hong Kong. The piece was commissioned by a group of test pilots as a retirement gift for their team leader. After a distinguished career as a Black Hawk and SAS pilot, he spent 30 years with Cathay Pacific; with the A321neo being the most recent aircraft he personally tested.
The project included several rounds of consultation and at one stage the clients requested an imagined “80th Anniversary” livery for the aircraft, but we agreed the classic Cathay Pacific scheme was the strongest choice. I did, however, incorporate both the old and new airport terminals in the same composition to honour the recipient’s long connection to the airline and this amazing city.
